Call for proposals to address the significant sex and gender disparities in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), which accounted for over 1.7 million deaths (32% of all deaths) in the EU in 2021. With a total budget of €39.3M, the call offers individual awards between €6.00 and 7.00 million to support projects that translate basic biological discoveries into innovative prevention, diagnosis, and treatment strategies tailored to specific physiological and sociocultural needs. Proposals are expected to further the understanding of structural, hormonal, and biological distinctions between sexes. Key focus areas include: Tailored Risk Models: Developing sex-specific models for better disease detection and prevention; Determinant Identification: Validating health determinants by integrating data from disciplines like molecular biology, genetics, and social epidemiology; Data Integration: Utilizing existing health registries, cohorts, and biobanks while ensuring any new data adheres to FAIR principles; and Technological Innovation: Encouraging the use of advanced tools, including Generative AI, to support research outcomes.
