About this grant
Call for proposals to establish a coordinated European Research Area (ERA) policy action to accelerate the development, validation, and uptake of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) in biomedical research and regulatory testing. This call provides a total of €2.9M to fund a single overarching proposal that will harmonize strategies across Member States and Associated Countries for the 2025–2027 period. The project must facilitate an EU-wide forum involving ministries, regulatory agencies, academia, and the pharmaceutical industry. The action is structured around four primary Working Groups (WGs): WG1 (Development & Infrastructure): Identifying priority biological areas and infrastructures to leverage scientific strengths across different regions; WG2 (Validation & Uptake): Defining criteria for regulatory acceptance and prioritizing mature NAMs for qualification by the MedTech and pharmaceutical sectors; WG3 (Education & Training): Mapping and developing high-quality training modules on NAMs and the 3Rs principles (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement) in partnership with knowledge institutes; WG4 (Openness & Awareness): Promoting open access to protocols and negative research results to prevent unnecessary duplication of animal testing and increasing regulator confidence in non-animal methods.
