Administered by Greenovation Green Steel Challenge by EarthON Foundation | Startup Grants India
The Greenovation Green Steel Challenge is a national innovation challenge designed to identify, support, and pilot high-impact solutions that enable the decarbonisation of the steel sector in India. The program focuses on sourcing innovations and proof-of-concepts that can be tested in real industrial environments, enabling innovators to move from pilot to scale with reduced risk. Aligned with India’s National Action Plan on Climate Change and long-term decarbonisation goals, the challenge addresses the urgent need to reduce emissions from steel production, which currently contributes a significant share of global CO₂ emissions. Participants gain access to live industrial testbeds across Eastern India, helping validate solutions under real-world operating conditions. Beyond funding, the challenge offers structured mentorship, capacity building, and ecosystem access to help innovators refine, deploy, and scale their solutions. The initiative also supports India’s early adoption of green steel standards, enhancing global competitiveness and ESG readiness.
