Eligibility requirements

All of the following criteria must be met:

  • Sa fisheries and aquaculture businesses impacted by the algal bloom.
  • This program aims to build resilience and create new opportunities for fisheries and aquaculture licence holders impacted by the algal bloom in sa.
  • Funding may be used for project-related costs, including:
  • Replacement or upgrades to existing equipment which substantially improve resilience, expand business capabilities/operations or support algal bloom clean-up and repair
  • Mentoring, research and development costs
  • Training and re-skilling existing staff
  • Payments to consultants (e.g. designers, engineers and technical specialists)
  • Algal bloom clean-up or repair of harvest area infrastructure costs
  • To be eligible, your business must be impacted by the algal bloom and have:
  • Been approved to receive/received a grant under the
  • Algal bloom fisheries and aquaculture assistance grant
  • Had your licence fees waived by the department of primary industries and regions under the
  • Businesses must also:
  • Be a legal entity established in australia
  • Be a sa commercial fisheries or aquaculture licence holder
  • Have held an active australian business number (abn) since 1 january 2025
  • Be registered for goods and services tax (gst)
  • Be currently operating (in any capacity)
  • Demonstrate minimum business turnover of $75,000 in financial year 2023-24 or 2024-25
  • Have an australia-wide grouped payroll not greater than $10 million in the financial year 2024-25
  • Derive at least 75% of business turnover directly from commercial activities under the commercial fisheries or aquaculture licence(s).
