- Must be based at UK research organisation eligible for AHRC funding

- FEC between £300K-£1.5 million, AHRC funds 80%, no limit on value
How to apply
- 1Ensure your organisation is registered on the UKRI Funding Service before applying.
- 2Applications cannot be submitted through the Je-S system.
- 3The project lead is responsible for completing the application process.
- 4All team members and project partners are expected to contribute.
- 5Only the lead research organisation can submit the application.
- 6Start the application using the UKRI Funding Finder page.
- 7Confirm that you are the project lead before proceeding.
- 8Sign in or create a Funding Service account.
- 9If your organisation is not listed, request addition via support email and allow at least 10 working days.
- 10Create an organisation Administration Account to manage potential grants.
- 11Complete application questions directly or offline and upload required documents.
- 12Review the application in read-only mode before submission.
- 13Submit the application to the research office for checking.
- 14The research office will submit the final application to UKRI.
- 15Use images sparingly and include descriptive captions where necessary.
- 16Ensure uploaded files meet size and format requirements.
- 17Applications must be self-contained with clearly cited references.
- 18Do not use hyperlinks to extend application content.
- 19Use of generative AI tools is permitted with caution.
- 20There is no fixed deadline; applications are accepted continuously.
- 21AHRC begins assessment upon receipt of application.
- 22Applications cannot be modified after submission.
- 23Non-compliant applications may be rejected.
- 24Rejected applications may be resubmitted, with assessment completed within nine months.
- 25Personal data will be collected and handled according to UK data protection laws.
- 26Application data will be shared with FNR for assessment purposes.
- 27Sensitive information should be submitted separately via email.
- 28No matched funding is required beyond the standard 20% FEC.
- 29Third-party contributions are encouraged.
- 30Successful applications may have some personal information published.
- 31Provide a plain English summary of up to 550 words.
- 32Ensure the summary is suitable for public and non-specialist audiences.
- 33Describe project context, challenges, objectives, and benefits in the summary.
- 34List core team members and assign appropriate roles.
- 35Only one individual should be listed as project lead.
- 36Luxembourg-based applicants must be listed as project co-lead international.
- 37Select one primary discipline classification.
- 38Provide secondary discipline keywords describing the research area.
- 39Upload FNR INTER budget sheet, budget justification, and project plan as a single PDF.
- 40Luxembourg-based applicants should justify resource needs in the INTER budget justification.
- 41In the Vision section, explain objectives, importance, and potential impact.
- 42In the Approach section, describe methodology, feasibility, risks, and outcomes.
- 43In the Team Capability section, demonstrate skills, experience, and contributions.
- 44Use the R4RI format to present team qualifications.
- 45Include optional additional context such as career breaks if relevant.
- 46Provide details of project partners including contributions and contact information.
- 47Upload letters of support from project partners in a single PDF.
- 48Ensure project partners confirm commitment and contribution.
- 49Do not include letters from host or co-lead organisations.
- 50Address ethical and responsible research and innovation considerations.
- 51Explain legal and ethical considerations for data usage and storage.
- 52Provide justification for resources and costs.
- 53Include only UK costs in the resource summary.
- 54Luxembourg-based costs should be included in the FNR INTER budget documents.
- 55Justify major expenses such as staff, travel, consumables, and infrastructure.
- 56Ensure resources are appropriate and provide value for money.
- 57Funding is not provided for individual equipment items over £25,000.
