Eligibility requirements

All of the following criteria must be met:

  • Business must be located in Elmbridge area (including Claygate, Cobham, Molesey, Oxshott, Stoke D'Abernon, Long Ditton, Thames Ditton, Hinchley Wood, Walton on Thames, Weybridge)
  • All applications need at least 50% match funding
  • Town and village centre independents can apply for digital high street boost support
  • Small and medium sized businesses can apply for green business boost for energy efficiency projects
  • Up to £2,000 available for improving shop fronts or signage
  • Up to £2,000 available to bring a shop that has been empty for at least 3 months back into commercial use
  • Up to £1,000 for town or village wide projects to drive new footfall, investment, streetscene improvements or sustainability
  • Start-ups can get up to £1,000
  • High street retail businesses upgrading to an e-commerce product sales website can get up to £1,500
  • Projects must benefit the local economy
  • Projects must attract the public to local services and amenities
  • Cannot accept applications from businesses previously awarded Elmbridge Civic Improvement Fund or Business Boost grant
  • Cannot accept applications from national or international franchises
  • Works which have already commenced prior to application are ineligible
  • Cannot cover professional fees
  • Cannot be used for businesses looking to rebrand
  • Applications are for one-off grants only
  • 2 comparable quotes required for each element of application (only UK-based suppliers can be considered)
  • Business rates and licensing checks will be carried out as part of application

What the funding covers

  • Elmbridge-based businesses can apply for a one-off grant.
  • The grant can cover up to 50% of the cost of eligible business projects.
  • Eligible projects must benefit the local economy.
  • Eligible projects must attract the public to local services and amenities.
  • Supported projects can include street furniture and street scene improvements.
  • Supported projects can include bringing a shop that has been empty for at least 3 months back into commercial use.
  • Supported projects can include improving shop fronts.
  • Supported projects can include learning, skills, or training initiatives.
  • Supported projects can include initiatives that promote community improvement projects.
  • Start-ups can get up to £1K.
  • High street retail businesses upgrading to an e-commerce product sales website can get up to £1.5K.

How to apply

  1. 1Complete either the PDF or Word application form (Business Boost application form)
  2. 2Read the guidance notes for information on how to complete the application
  3. 3Include 2 comparable quotes for each element of your application (only UK-based suppliers can be considered)
  4. 4Include written consent from your landlord if applicable
  5. 5Include a mock-up of the proposed works if applicable
  6. 6Include confirmation that you have checked the Planning Portal to see whether your project needs planning or advertising consent if applicable
  7. 7Include any other relevant supporting documents
  8. 8All applications require at least 50% match funding
  9. 9Applications are for one-off grants only
  10. 10If your business is VAT registered and expenditure will be used for VAT-eligible goods/services, the grant will be made excluding VAT
  11. 11Works which have already commenced prior to application are ineligible
