About this grant

This is an opportunity for information and communications technology (ICT) researchers to use their expertise in other disciplines, or for other researchers to apply their expertise to ICT. You must be based at an eligible UK research organisation. You must be 'hopping' into or from one of the ICT research areas covered by this funding opportunity. You should have a proven track record of research in your home discipline and demonstrate how you would develop skills and collaborations with other disciplines or users. You must show how you will use interdisciplinary research and collaborative development to benefit the ICT research community.

Eligibility requirements

All of the following criteria must be met:

  • Must be based at an eligible UK research organisation
  • EPSRC standard eligibility rules apply
  • Must be 'hopping' into or from one of the ICT research areas
  • Proven track record in home discipline required
  • No uninvited resubmissions accepted
  • Must demonstrate skills development and collaboration with other disciplines

What the funding covers

  • 80% of full economic costs (FEC)
  • Duration between 3 and 24 months
  • Salary of project lead
  • Travel and subsistence while away from home institution
  • Training courses or development opportunities (including commercialisation and knowledge exchange)
  • Project co-lead at host institution for training and guidance
  • Consumables to carry out research
  • Spending on broadening impact and maximising collaborative work
  • Does NOT fund: replacement salary costs at home institution, overseas/industry project co-leads, equipment over £25,000

  1. 1Apply through UKRI Funding Service. No fixed closing dates - applications batched internally. Processing throughout 2025 and 2026. Application includes: Summary (550 words), Core team, Thematic area alignment, Vision and Approach (6 pages + workplan), Applicant and team capability (1,500 words R4RI format), References (1,000 words), Project partners, Facilities, Resources and cost justification (1,000 words), Ethics and RRI (500 words).
