About this grant

Network grants are for researchers at eligible research organisations. EPSRC will support costs of building interdisciplinary research communities. You can apply for a network grant in any area within the remit of EPSRC. Network grants aim to develop new interdisciplinary research communities and topics by supporting interaction between researchers and relevant science, technology and industrial groups. We expect networks to lead to new collaborative multidisciplinary research applications. Some may develop into virtual centres of excellence.

Eligibility requirements

All of the following criteria must be met:

  • Must be based at an eligible UK research organisation
  • EPSRC standard eligibility rules apply
  • Project co-lead (international) can be based in Norwegian institution under UKRI-RCN agreement
  • No uninvited resubmissions accepted
  • Must be a new collaboration
  • Must aim to form new interdisciplinary research community

What the funding covers

  • 80% of full economic costs (FEC)
  • Expected duration no longer than three years
  • No limit on value of grant
  • Salary costs for time spent setting up and managing the network
  • Travel and subsistence for members to meet and exchange ideas
  • Workshops
  • Administrative support to coordinate the network
  • Communication costs and additional equipment (PCs, web servers)
  • Does NOT fund research itself

How to apply

  1. 1Apply through UKRI Funding Service. No fixed closing dates - applications batched internally. Apply when ready. Processing throughout 2024, 2025 and 2026. Application includes: Summary (550 words), Core team, Thematic area alignment, Vision and Approach (6 pages + workplan), Applicant and team capability (1,500 words R4RI format), References (1,000 words), Project partners, Facilities, Resources and cost justification (1,000 words), Ethics and RRI (500 words).
