Strategic infrastructure outlines

About this grant

Apply for funding to purchase strategic infrastructure including equipment, resources or both. The funding seeks to improve UK scientific capability and enable cutting-edge research of high priority to EPSRC. This funding is for either purchase and set-up of infrastructure or resources to support existing infrastructure. The full economic cost (FEC) of your infrastructure must be at least £400K. EPSRC expects no more than six applications from each institution per year.

Eligibility requirements

All of the following criteria must be met:

• Must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for EPSRC funding
• EPSRC standard eligibility rules apply
• Research technical professionals can apply as project lead or project co-lead under specific conditions
• Route two (resources to support existing infrastructure) only for invited applicants
• UKRI-RCN and UKRI-IIASA agreements do not apply

What the funding covers

• Purchase and set-up of strategic infrastructure
• Resources to support existing strategic infrastructure (maximum two years duration)
• Equipment, computing resources, software
• Installation and commissioning costs
• Support staff directly related to infrastructure operation

How to apply

5. 5Allow at least 10 working days for organisation to be added
6. 6Create an organisation Administration Account if requesting organisation addition
7. 7Administration account needed for acceptance and management of potential grant
8. 8Answer questions directly in text boxes
9. 9Save answers and return later if needed
10. 10Work offline and copy paste answers back into system if preferred
11. 11Upload documents only when requested following Funding Service instructions

13. 13Review application in read-only view before submission
14. 14Send completed application to research office for checking
15. 15Research office may return application for edits
16. 16Research office submits checked application to UKRI
