Eligibility requirements

All of the following criteria must be met:

  • Based at UK research organisation eligible for NERC funding
  • In role meeting individual eligibility requirements
  • Must have submitted proposal or pre-proposal for drilling expedition to IODP3 via Gateway system
  • Maximum 2 applications per person (only 1 as project lead)

What the funding covers

  • FEC up to £500K for ship borne investigations, £187.5K for virtual investigations
  • NERC funds 80% FEC
  • Duration up to 24 months
  • Ship borne geophysical site surveys requiring ship time
  • Virtual site survey support for processing existing geophysical data
  • Facilities costs and cruise costs
  • Does NOT fund: PhD studentships, equipment £25K+
