How to apply
- 1Use UKRI Funding Service only; Je-S cannot be used
- 2Ensure organisation is registered on Funding Service
- 3Only lead research organisation can submit
- 4Primary academic partner must be named as Project Lead
- 5Primary business partner details go in Applicant and Team Capability and Project Partner sections
- 6Primary academic and primary business partner are treated as joint leads in assessment
- 7An individual can only be named in joint lead roles on one application at a time
- 8Organisations may participate in multiple applications but must confirm resource commitments in support letters
- 9Primary academic partner completes the application with contributions from all partners
- 10Select Start Application on Funding Finder
- 11Confirm project lead status
- 12Create or sign in to Funding Service account
- 13Contact support@funding-service.ukri.org if organisation is missing
- 14Allow 10 working days for organisation registration
- 15Create organisation Administration Account (recommended)
- 16Complete responses in text boxes and upload required documents
- 17Review application in read-only mode before sending to research office
- 18Research office and finance teams review hosting and financial eligibility
- 19Submit to research office for final UKRI submission
- 20Use images only for essential visuals; no text paragraphs, tables or excessive images
- 21Each image must have a caption, be on a new line and under 5MB
- 22Use references within word counts and hyperlinks only for reference citations
- 23Do not use hyperlinks to extend the application
- 24Generative AI permitted with caution under UKRI policy
- 25Deadline: submit by 21 May 2026, 4:00pm UK time
- 26No amendments or resubmissions after submission unless specifically allowed
- 27Sensitive information should be emailed separately to EPSRC
- 28No institutional match funding required beyond standard 20% FEC
- 29Third-party direct and in-kind contributions encouraged
- 30Successful outcomes may be published by EPSRC and Gateway to Research

- 32Assign Core Team roles using UKRI-approved role types
- 33Primary business partner is not listed as a core team role
- 34Prepare Vision and Approach as a single PDF attachment
- 35Vision and Approach attachment limited to 8 A4 pages plus optional 1-page workplan
- 36Use 11-point Arial or equivalent, minimum 2cm margins, PDF under 8MB
- 37Include diagrammatic workplan with milestones and timelines
- 38Address Vision criteria: excellence, innovation, impacts, beneficiaries, UK capability
- 39Address Approach criteria: feasibility, methodology, risks, benefits realisation, research environment
- 40Declare separation of duties if applicant has roles in both business and research organisation
- 41Prepare Fit to Prosperity Partnerships section (500 words)
- 42Show project is co-created, co-delivered and aligned with UK industrial strategy
- 43Prepare Applicant and Team Capability section (2000 words) using R4RI format
- 44Include names and organisations of both primary business and academic partners
- 45Demonstrate use of technical and specialist capabilities in project team
- 46Cover R4RI modules: knowledge generation, team development, community contribution, societal benefit
- 47Use Additions section only for contextual factors, not extra achievements
- 48Prepare Primary Academic Partner Research Organisation Statement (800 words)
- 49Provide evidence of established partnership, duration, achievements and strategic direction
- 50Include institutional support and funding or in-kind contributions in statement
- 51Include authorised signatory details in research organisation statement
- 52Add project partner details and contributions
- 53Primary business partner cash contribution is expected
- 54Upload project partner letters of support as single PDF
- 55Primary business partner letter must include partnership history and cash contribution breakdown
- 56Other partner letters must confirm commitment, value and contribution breakdown
- 57Do not provide letter of support from primary academic partner
- 58Complete Facilities section (250 words) if facility support is required
- 59Only list facilities from approved facility information list
- 60Prepare Resources and Cost Justification section (1000 words)
- 61Justify staff, travel, equipment over £25k, consumables, facilities and exceptions
- 62Complete Partner Contributions to Costs table in Funding Service
- 63Business partner cash contributions must at least match EPSRC funding requested
- 64Primary business partner cash contribution must be the largest among business partners
- 65Provide values A-M covering FEC, EPSRC funding, cash, in-kind and combined project value
- 66Include full contribution details in matching partner support letters
- 67Prepare Ethics and Responsible Research and Innovation section (500 words)
- 68Address ethical issues, societal impacts, sustainability and EPSRC AREA framework
- 69Answer additional sub-questions if relevant on animals, humans, biological risk or tissues
- 70Prepare Trusted Research and Innovation section (100 words)
- 71Address dual-use risks, NSI Act relevance, export controls, sensitive research mitigations
- 72Additional TR&I information or grant conditions may be requested later
